Call for Papers: GLC-SPIL International Law Journal by GLC Mumbai: Submit Now

Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai, based at the historic Government Law College (GLC), Mumbai, is inviting submissions for Volume VI, Issue I of the GLC-SPIL International Law Journal (ILJ). This bi-annual, double-blind peer-reviewed journal serves as a global platform for legal scholarship in the field of international law. The deadline for the upcoming issue is September 15, 2025.

About GLC Mumbai

Government Law College (GLC), Mumbai, is Asia’s oldest law school. It has been a cornerstone of Indian jurisprudence, nurturing many of the country’s most distinguished legal minds, including Chief Justices, Bharat Ratnas, and prominent political leaders.

About SPIL Mumbai

SPIL Mumbai is a student-led organization dedicated to promoting international law beyond the classroom. The organization facilitates global interactions, comprehensive legal studies, and provides a bridge between students and legal professionals worldwide.

About the International Law Journal

The GLC-SPIL International Law Journal is the flagship publication of SPIL Mumbai. Starting from the academic year 2025–26, the journal transitioned to a bi-annual publication:

  • Issue I: General international law topics.
  • Issue II: Focused on the theme of the annual GLC International Law Summit.

Theme: International Law

For Volume VI, Issue I, the theme is General. The editorial board invites submissions on any topic under the broad umbrella of international law, including both Public and Private International Law.

Submission Categories

The journal accepts various forms of legal writing (word counts are exclusive of footnotes):

  • Long Articles (6,000 – 10,000 words): In-depth analysis of legal regimes or theoretical frameworks.
  • Short Articles/Essays (4,000 – 6,000 words): Concise pieces on emerging trends.
  • Case Comments/Legislative Notes (2,000 – 3,000 words): Evaluation of landmark judgments by international tribunals or national policies affecting treaties.
  • Treaty & Instrument Analyses (2,000 – 3,000 words): Examination of conventions and customary international law.
  • Book Reviews (2,000 – 3,000 words): Reviews of recent academic texts or practitioner handbooks.

Formatting and Citation Guidelines

  • Body: Times New Roman, Size 12, 1.5 spacing, Justified.
  • Footnotes: Times New Roman, Size 10, Single spacing.
  • Margins: 1-inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
  • Citation Style: Must strictly conform to the Harvard Bluebook 21st Edition.
  • Style Guide: Authors must adhere to the specific GLC-SPIL ILJ Style Guide.
