The Urban Justice Centre is seeking a dedicated Immigration Legal Intern to support their mission of providing human rights-based legal representation. Given the nature of the work, this role requires a high degree of empathy, trauma-informed care, and specific language skills to serve a diverse and marginalized client base.
Internship Details
- Position: Immigration Legal Intern
- Location: New York, NY (Remote, Onsite, or Hybrid options available)

Mandatory Eligibility Criteria
- Language Skills: Professional fluency in Spanish (or another community language) is strictly required.
- Legal Knowledge: Familiarity with Immigration Law.
- Cultural Competency: Applicants must be comfortable working closely with LGBTQ+ clients and survivors of trauma.
- Inclusive Hiring: SWP strongly encourages applications from people of color, indigenous people, and individuals with lived experience of migration and/or sex work.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the legal team in providing immigration services to sex workers and survivors of trafficking.
- Support cases involving T-visas, U-visas, asylum, and other immigration relief.
- Conduct legal research and assist in drafting applications and legal briefs.
- Communicate with clients in a trauma-informed and culturally competent manner.
